Parco Nazionale di Komodo in Indonesia: un paradiso per gli amanti delle immersioni e della natura

Il Parco Nazionale di Komodo è per molti viaggiatori che vanno in Indonesia un sogno che diventa realtà in quanto è possibile vedere sia i varani che un incredibile flora e fauna marina.
Il modo più semplice per visitare il Parco Nazionale di Komodo è organizzare il tour da Labuan Bajo.
La città è piuttosto piccola e la maggior parte delle attività sulla strada principale sono agenzie di viaggio, centri diving, minimarket e centri massaggi.

La Batik Air ha nuovi voli da Jakarta a Labuan Bajo, ma è meglio prenotare con largo anticipo, specialmente ad Agosto perché è alta stagione e al momento c'è un solo volo diretto al giorno.
È possibile volare a Labuan Bajo anche da Denpasar con diverse compagnie.

Un taxi dall'aeroporto al centro città costa 100.000 IDR e per un punto all'altro della città 50.000 IDR. Sembra che siano tassi fissi ma si può comunque provare a contrattare (specialmente con i moto taxi).
Le agenzie di viaggio offrono diversi pacchetti per visitare alcune isole nel parco nazionale di Komodo. La maggior parte di queste isole non è abitata, quindi non è possibile pernottare lì, ma si possono fare delle mini crociere con pernottamento a bordo che ritengo sia un'esperienza fantastica.
I tour di 1 giorno vanno bene se si vuol solo visitare le due isole di Komodo e Rinca e godersi un bel bagno di sole sulla spiaggia rosa (nel prezzo di solito è compreso l'affitto di pinne e maschera per fare snorkeling, ma l'acqua è abbastanza fredda, la barriera corallina non è una delle migliori della
zona e la spiaggia è così invitante che vale la pena di essere un po 'pigro e rilassarsi sotto il sole).

Le cosa migliore tuttavia è secondo me quella di fare un tour di 2 giorni e 1 notte o 3 giorni e 2 notti, che permettono di visitare più isole oltre a Komodo  e Rinca, fare snorkeilng al Manta Point (se si è fortunati si possono vedere le mante!!!) e fare escursioni sull'isola di Padar poco prima del tramonto e
altro ancora.

A meno che non si voglia spendere una fortuna per una cabina privata, bisogna tuttavia essere pronti a dormire sul ponte della barca all'aria aperta con un solo bagno disponibile per tutti. Il personale della barca fornirà materasso, coperte e cuscini.
Il cibo sulla barca è abbastanza buono e viene cucinato giornalmente dallo chef della barca.
Caffè, tè e acqua sono sempre disponibili e lo staff farà del suo meglio per rendere il vostro soggiorno il più confortevole possibile.
Naturalmente se è trascorso una piacevole crociera è sempre bene lasciare una piccola mania alla fine del viaggio.
In alta stagione (agosto) il tour di 2 giorni dovrebbe costare circa 800.000 IDR, ma a seconda di quanto sia confortevole la barca e di quale tipo di alloggio
si sia scelto può essere molto più alto (1.500.000 IDR per cabina privata con aria condizionata).
Il tour di 1 giorno dovrebbe essere più economico, circa 400.000 ID in alta stagione.
Vi consiglio di chiedere il prezzo a un'agenzia di viaggi diversa e di chiedere loro anche di mostrarvi una foto della barca e dei servizi forniti.
Alcuni di essi includono il prelievo in hotel, i cinema in barca e altro ... tutto dipende dal budget, da ciò che si desidera e da quanto si è bravi a contrattare.

Se si fanno immersioni, non ci si può assolutamente perdere di farne qualcuna nel parco di Komodo, e ovviamente uno dei siti più ambiti è Manta Point.
Il sito in sé non è bello in quanto la maggior parte del corallo è morto, ma osservare le mante che nuotano a pochi metri di distanza è semplicemente fantastico.

Immersione con le mante

Ancora una volta consiglio di chiedere il prezzo a diversi diving center e di prenotare con la compagnia che sembra più professionale come sicurezza
che, quando si parla di immersioni, è sempre la cosa più importante. Chiedere sempre di poter dare un'occhiata all'attrezzatura prima di prenotare
l'immersione e se hanno un primo kit di emergenza sulla barca.
Se possibile parlate con il dive master e avvisatelo nel caso sia da molto tempo che non fate immersioni in modo che possiate decidere se è meglio fare un refresh o meno.
Una giornata di 3 immersioni con pranzo e a volte la colazione dovrebbe costare circa 1.400.000 IDR a persona ... ovviamente a seconda del servizio dato potrebbe essere un po 'di più o un po 'meno.
Personalmente ho scelto il Divers Paradise (proprio accanto a Komodo Tours & Travel) perchè mi sono sembrati abbastanza professionali e l'attrezzatura era ben tenuta.
Un'altra opzione per i subacquei è una crociera di qualche giorno che viene organizzata da alcuni Diving.
In questo modo si ha la possibilità di fare immersioni nella maggior parte dei siti piu' belli di Komodo (a seconda del numero di giorni prenotati e del livello della licenza di immersione).
Di solito si fanno 3 immersioni al giorno, ma in alcuni giorni saranno solo 2 in modo da avere il tempo di fare qualche escursione o di guardare i varani
a Komodo o Rinca.
Immergersi nel parco marino di Komodo costa 175.000 IDR di tasse per il parco al giorno durante la settimana e 250.000 IDR la domenica e i festivi, mentre le escursioni a Komodo con una guida (è obbligatorio, poiché l'escursionismo da soli è troppo pericoloso) costa 65.000 IDR di tasse per parco durante la settimana e 100.000 IDR la domenica e i festivi.

Rinca è meno costosa 25,000IDR durante la settimana e con più opportunità di vedere i draghi in quanto è più piccola di Komodo.
Su entrambe le isole si può scegliere il tipo di escursione che si desidera fare con la guida. Hanno 3 livelli diversi: piccolo, medio e lungo, a seconda di quanto tempo si ha e quanto si è in forma e soprattutto di quanto fa caldo.
Il più lungo non è così lungo alla fine ma salire le colline sotto il sole equatoriale senza alcuna vegetazione a far ombra può essere piuttosto difficile
se non si è abituati ai climi caldi.

Ho prenotato la mia crociera di 2 giorni e 1 notte con Komodo Explorer Tour & Travel -JlnSoekarno Hatta No.84.
La barca non era una delle migliori, ma il cibo era buono e il personale era molto gentile anche se non parlava inglese.
L'agenzia di viaggi è collegata con l'hotel Gardena accanto che possiede anche alcuni bungalow sull'isola di Seraya a 35 minuti di barca da Labuan Bajo.
L'isola non è nel parco nazionale e le capanne al Seraya Sunset Beach sono molto essenziali, ma è uno dei posti più economici che ho trovato sulle isole
vicine.

Il "resort" è gestito da Paul, un indonesiano molto gentile e disponibile.
Ovviamente l'elettricità sull'isola non arriva e nel "resort" accendono il generatore dalle 18.30 circa alle 22,00.
Lo snorkeling su questo lato dell'isola non è un gran che e ad Agosto nel pomeriggio arriva la bassa marea, consiglio di farlo dall'altra parte dell'isola (ci si arriva con una passeggiata di 5 minuti) dove i coralli sono molto più belli e vivi e c'è una grande varietà di pesci.
Stare a Labuan Bajo ad un prezzo basso è abbastanza facile in quanto è pieno di ostelli con letti in camerata.
La città non è grande ma sta costruendo molti nuovi hotel e resort e al momento l'intera città sembra solo un grande cantiere.
Ho scelto il One Tree Hill Hostel - JALAN VERHOEVEN PANTAI KLUMPANG, DESA BATU CERMIN, 86754 Labuan Bajo.
Il posto è bellissimo, pulito e ben tenuto e i ragazzi che ci lavorano sono gentili e cordiali.
La vista dai balconi e dalla terrazza del bar è semplicemente incredibile.

Purtroppo questo ostello è lontano dal centro della città e l'ultimo km per raggiungerlo è su una strada sterrata quindi è necessario noleggiare un motorino (circa 80.000,00IDR al giorno)
o pagare un taxy (100.000,00 IDR a tratta per il centro città).

Komodo National Park Indonesia: a Paradise for diving and nature lovers

Komodo National Park is for many travellers who go to Indonesia a dream that comes true.
Over there it is possible to see both the dragons and an amazing sea life.
The easyest way to visit Komodo National park is organizing the tour from Labuan Bajo.
The city is quite small and most of the activities on the main road are travel agencies, diving centers, minimarkets and massage centers.
Batik air offer new flights fron Jakarta to Labuan Bajo, but as usual it is better to book it quite in advance, expecially in August as it is high season over there.
It is possible to fly there fron Denpasar - Bali- too with more companies.
A taxy from the airpor to the city center cost about 100.000IDR and anywhere in the city 50.000IDR. It seems they are fixed rates but you can still try to bargain (expecially with moto taxy).

Travel agencies offer different tours to visit few island in komodo national park. Most of these islands are unabited so it is not possible to overnight there, but you can still overnight on board and I think it is just an amazing experience.
1 Day tour just to visit the two islands of Komodo and Rinca and having a nice sunbath at pink beach (on the boat they usually borrow you fins and mask for snorkel, but water there is quite chilly, the reef is not one of the best of the area and the beach is so inviting that it worth to be a bit lazy and just
relax under the sun).

You can also take a 2 days 1 night or 3 days 2 night tour that will allow you to visit more islands after Komodo and Rica, snorkeilng at Manta point (if you are luky you can see reef mantas!!!) and hiking on Padar island just before sunset and more.

Unless you don't want to pay a fortune for a private cabin, be prepared to sleep on the boat deck. Boat staff will provide with matress, blankets and pillow.

Food on the boat is quite good and is cooked daily by the boat chef.
Coffee, tea and water are always available and the staff will do its best to make your saty as comfortable as possible.
Of course if you had a pleasant cruise it is always good to leave them a tip at the end of the trip.
In high season (August) the 2 day tour should cost about 800.000 IDR but depending on how posh is the boat and which kind of accomodation you require it can be much higher (1.500.000 IDR for private cabin with air cond).

1 Day tour should be cheaper, about 400.000IDR in high season.
I recommend you to ask for the price to different travel agency and ask them also to show you a picture of the boat and services provided.
Some of them include hotel pick up, cinemas on the boat and more...it all depends on your budget, what you want and how good you are to bargain.




If you are a diver, you can't absolutely miss to dive into the Komodo park, and of course can't miss to have at least one dive at the Manta Point.
The site itself is not that nice as most of the coral there is died, but watching mantas swimming at few meters from you is just amazing.
Again I recommend you to ask the price to different diving center and to book with the company that seems more professional as safety while diving is the most important thing. Ask them to let you have a look at the equipment before booking your dive and if they have a first emergency kit on the boat.
Speak with the dive master if he/her is there and let him know if it is long time you don't dive so that he can decide if it is better for you to have a "refresh" or not.
1 day 3 dive with lunch and sometimes breakfast should cost about 1.400.000IDR per person...of course depending on the service given: it could be a bit more or a bit less.

I decided to dive with Divers Paradise (just next door with Komodo Tours & Travel) and I think they are quite professional and the equipment is well kept.
An other options for divers is a few days diving cruise. Some diving center organize it, so you basically have the opportunity to dive on the most of the dive sites in the Komodo marine park (depending on the number of days you book and the level of your diving license).
They usually make 3 dives per day, but some days you will make 2 so that you have time to make some hiking too or watching the dragons in Komodo or Rinca.

Diving the Komodo marine park costs 175.000IDR park fees per day during the week and 250.000IDR on sunday and holiday, while hiking in Komodo with a guide (it is mandatory, as hiking on your own is too dangerouse) costs 65.000IDR park fees during the week and 100.000 IDR on sunday and holiday.
Rinca is less expensive 25.000IDR during the week and with more opportunities to see the dragons as the island is smaller tan Komodo one.

On both islands you can choose the kind of hike you want to do with the guide. They have 3 different level: small, medium and long, depending on how much
time you have and how fit you are and most of all how much hot it is.
The longest one is not so long at the end but stepping up hills under the equatorial sun without any vegetation to shade can be quite hard if you are not
used to hot temperatures.
I booked my 2 days and 1 night cruise with Komodo Explorer Tour & Travel -JlnSoekarno Hatta No.84.
The boat was not one of the best but food was good and the staff was very nice thought they could not speak much of english.
The travel agency is connected with the Gardena hotel next door that owns few huts on the Serya island at 35 minutes by boat from Labuan Bajo.
The island is not into the national Park and huts at Seraya Sunset Beach are very basics, but it is one of the cheapest places I've found on a nearby island and is managed by Mr Paul, an indonesian lad that is very kind and helpful.

Over there electricity is available just from 6.30 pm up to 10 pm. I stayed there 4 nights and nobody has come to clean my room, though it was not really necessary.
The place is very quiet, you can enjoy an amazing sunset and food at the restaurant is cheap and tasty though they take ages to cook it after your order and there is very little choice.
On the island there is not much to do except for snorkeling (in August it is better doing it in the morning as in the afternin there is low tide) and sunbathing.
On the other part of the island there are two luxury resorts that can be reached with just few minutes walk.
One of them have a dive center but I would not recommend to dive with them as prices are much more high than what you can pay diving from Labuan Bajo.
Snorkeling on this side of the island is better than doing it from the susnset beach as over there corals are almost all death while in this side of the island they are much more better and there is a bigger variety of fishes.

Staying in Labuan Bajo at a low price is quite easy as it is full of hostel.
The city is not big but they are building up lot of new hotels and resort and at the moment the whole town seems just a big building site.
I chose the One Tree Hill Hostel - JALAN VERHOEVEN PANTAI KLUMPANG, DESA BATU CERMIN, 86754 Labuan Bajo.
The place is beautiful, clean and well kept and the guys working them are kind and friendly.

Though the place is far away from the city center and the last km to reach it are on a dirty road so you need to rent a moped (about 80.000,00IDR per day)
or pay a taxy (100.000,00 IDR each way to the city center).
